This is the ONLY Basilica in the world dedicated to the Honor and Memory of
St. Joan of Arc (Ste. Jehanne D’Arc)
The cornerstone was laid on Nov 3, 1881. The future sanctuary was entrusted to the Congregation of Jesus and Mary (Eudistes), who were put in charge of developing the cult of the 'Saint of the Fatherland' and to pray for the soldiers of France.
Although still under construction, the first mass was celebrated there in the month of February 1896.

On June 4, 1939 it received the title of minor basilica, and during a large ceremony bringing together more than 80,000 pilgrims, the Cardinal Villeneuve, legate of Pope Pie XII, this church was established as a Basilique. It was declared a historic monument on July 4, 2006.

Because the Basilica and its grand organ are 83 years old, there is a great need to restore and repair them to their original grandeur. That is why the people of Domremy and the surrounding area have established a fund to raise the needed capital to accomplish their stated goal of restoring to the building and the Basilica’s organ.
This task must be accomplished before the ravages of time and the elements do irreparable damage to the building and its priceless artistic treasures that are contained there.
